Kia has officially unveiled its first electric vehicle that doesn't have a gasoline or hybrid counterpart.

The first images of the upcoming EV6 were released earlier this month, but now we know more details about the car that's shaped like a small, compact SUV.

The EV6 has three configurations with its standard EV6, and the GT and GT-line variations. The new EV establishes Kia's stance on electrification. Its new long-range battery goes more than 315 miles on a single charge. That's enough range to go from Los Angeles to Las Vegas or Paris to Amsterdam. The EV6 is Kia's first car built on a new electric platform known as the Electric-Global Modular Platform or E-GMP.

All of Kia's future EVs will be built on this platform. The Korean carmaker plans to have 11 new battery-electric cars by 2026, with the EV6 as the first pure EV model.

The fastest EV6 is the GT version with dual motors and 77.4kWh long-range battery. It can reach up to 161mph as its top speed and accelerates from 0 to about 60mph in 3.5 seconds. The standard version with a 58kWh battery takes 6.2 seconds to get to 60mph.

When it comes to charging, the EV6's 800 volt system keeps things moving. It takes only 18 minutes to go from 10 percent to 80 percent battery. And the charging system doesn't just charge the car. It can be plugged into another EV or into a generator. It can provide up to 3.6 kilowatts of power, which is enough to keep a 55-inch TV and air conditioner going for 24 hours.

Inside the car are two curved 12-inch touchscreens and an augmented reality heads-up display that's projected on the front windshield. An advanced driving system is available on the highway for automated driving like lane-keeping and collision avoidance. Off the highway there's smart parking assistant to get into tight spots.

But as Kia's vice president of interior design said at the unveiling event, "It's certainly not just about putting a big screen on the dashboard."

The EV6 lineup also sports the new Kia logo, which was officially revealed at the beginning of the year along with a new slogan, "Movement that inspires." The seat material is made of vegan leather and recycled plastic, which comes from 111 plastic bottles. So yeah, inspiring.

In the U.S., expect to see the EV6 at the beginning of 2022. In South Korea where the car is produced, the car will arrive later this year. Pricing hasn't been announced yet. Stay tuned.
