The first Justice Leaguetrailer has exploded onto the internet, and it's a lot to take in. There are new characters, new lines, new moves, new reasons to cheer, and new reasons to be worried.
SEE ALSO:The new 'Justice League' trailer is here, omg, omg, breathe, please everyone just breathe, akjsdhfgkas; So, let's get into it. Here are the trailer's ten key moments:
First, let's take a moment to watch the whole thing again, shall we?
And now, let's pick apart this sucker, beat by beat, to get to the most exciting reveals.
Cyborg may be the most mysterious Justice League member so far, but we're about to get to know him a whole lot better. Although Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justiceshowed us how Cyborg came into being, Justice Leagueteases glimpses of his pre-superhero life.
And based on what we know about this movie, his origin story may turn out to be essential.
As revealed last year, Justice Leaguerevolves around three magical MacGuffins known as motherboxes. One of those are in the care of the Atlanteans, and another in the hands of the Amazons. The third is what makes Cyborg, well...Cyborg.
Batman is the only Justice League member without any superhuman abilities. But that doesn't mean he doesn't have a superpower. When the Flash asks Bruce what his special gift is, Bruce retorts, "I'm rich."
He's not wrong. All that wealth buys him lots of crazy cutting-edge gadgets and all the fitness training and workout gear he could possibly want, which in turn allows him to do some fairly cool stuff (which: see above).
Okay, this isn't technicallyour first look at Mera, since Justice Leaguedirector Zach Snyder released a photo of her some months ago. But it's our first peek at Aquaman's leading lady in action. Look for her to return next year in the Aquamansolo film, directed by James Wan.
Guys, this is the first ever live-action Justice Leaguemovie. Time will tell how the film pans out for fans, but it's worth taking a moment now to appreciate just how cool it is to see the gang come together.
Billy Crudup hadn't yet been cast as Henry Allen when the first Justice Leaguefootage dropped last summer, so this is, in fact, our first look at the character. While DC's big-screen universe is entirely separate from its small-screen one, this scene should look kinda familiar to fans of The CW's The Flash.
While the Justice League will lead the charge against the forces of evil, they're apparently not the only ones fighting the good fight. A giant action sequence shows what appears to be an army of Amazons charging into battle. Is this a flashback? Or does Diana call upon her people to aid in the fight?
If you're wondering why the Amazons would be involved here to begin with, it all comes back to those damn motherboxes again. Remember, the Amazons have one in their possession—so, of course, they'll do what it takes to keep it from falling into the wrong hands.
Every Batman needs a Commissioner Gordon. Batfleck's is played by J.K. Simmons, and it turns out this version of the character... kinda treats the Caped Crusader like a small child.
This whole scene is the funniest in the entire trailer (which, honestly, ain't saying much, because the DCEU is many things, but "funny" is not one of them). Gordon tells Batman, "It's good to see you playing well with others again," as if Batman were a petulant pre-schooler coming off a time-out.
Batman himself doesn't really help matters, glowering at Aquaman and grunting that their alliance is "maybe temporary."
Oh, and speaking of the King of the Seven Seas ...
If Wonder Woman and Batman are the mom and dad of the Justice League, and Cyborg and the Flash are the babies of the family, where's that leave Aquaman? Well, based on this trailer, he might be the fun uncle.
The first Justice Leaguefootage reel made him look like a super-cranky, super-buff dude with no interest in joining the team—but in the first trailer, he seems to be having more fun than anyone. He drinks with abandon, dives headfirst into dangerous situations, and takes the piss out of Batman. He's gonna be the breakout character of this film, no doubt.
By the time Justice Leaguehits theaters, audiences should be well acquainted with Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman, thanks to her solo film, out this summer.
We know Superman is in Justice League; Henry Cavill's name is listed right there alongside Ben Affleck's and Gal Gadot's on all the official promo materials. But when, why, and how he returns remains to be seen, and the new trailer isn't offering any clues.
The only reminder that he's part of this universe at all comes in the form of a split-second shot of Amy Adams as Lois Lane. Wonder what she's looking at?
Oh, and for those following along with all the Justice Leaguerumors at home, there's no mention of Green Lantern anywhere yet, either.
Nor do we see any peek of the film's main villain, Steppenwolf. Presumably, he's probably lurking in some corner and waiting for the next trailer to arrive.
