Now the longest in history, the U.S. government shutdown has led to some unusual things happening.

Like for Donald Trump, who on Monday, during his imposed shutdown over funding for his border wall, hosted the Clemson Tigers, crowned the best college football team in the country last week.

You'd expect a fancy feast when visiting the White House, but the shutdown meant that many of its staff were furloughed. So, Trump — who said he paid for it himself — decided to put on a spread of fast food for the visiting champions, consisting of items from McDonald's, Wendy's, and Dominos.

Trump told reporters earlier that day that he "would think that's their favorite food."

And he wasn't joking: There were stacks of (very patriotic) burgers, pizza, fries, and nuggets arranged on silver platters in the White House's dining room.

"I like it all. I like it all. It’s all good stuff, great American food. And it’s going to be very interesting to see at the end of this evening how many are left," Trump told reporters.

Naturally, the internet had much to say about the banquet, like the guy lighting candles, as you do when you're about to dine on some Quarter Pounders and Filet O' Fish.

Or the fancy gravy boats, which for this occasion were used to hold dipping sauces.

Many picked up the portrait of Abe Lincoln in the background, merely witnessing the scene beneath him.

One Clemson player was reportedly heard saying: "Our nutritionist must be having a fit."

It was certainly an interesting sight.

Although it's unusual, the Clemson players dug in. And hey, we would've done so too, although what's the bet the food would've already been lukewarm.

Although it's often highlighted Trump has a penchant for fast food, his predecessor Barack Obama was also a big fan of cheeseburgers — albeit arguably better iterations from Shake Shack and Five Guys (don't @ me on the latter, please).

Anyway, this whole thing is totally a reenactment from Richie Rich.
